Our hens our not caged and are able to range and scratch in a natural environment. We close them in only at night in order to protect them from predators. They have access to fresh pasture in the spring, summer and fall and are fed hay in the winter. Eggs from pasture raised animals are known to have higher amounts of healthy Omega 3 fatty acids thus providing added health benefits

Berkshire hogs are a hertitage breed, named for the region in England where they were discovered by Oliver Cromwell's army more than 300 years ago. The excellent quality of the Berkshire hog made them an early favorite with the upper class of english farmers. For years the Royal Family even kept a large Berkshire herd at Windsor Castle.In Japan Berkshire pork is called Kurobuta and they lead the world in Berkshire consumption. Berkshires have been raised in this country for over 150 years. Prized for its richness and depth of flavor Berkshire pigs top all other breeds in such catagories as meat marbling, moisture, and tenderness. Hasselmann Family Farms raises its Berkshires outdoors on pasture using sustainable farming practices such as crop rotation and pasture farrowing.
